In the heart of Ohio's Grand River Valley, the Northeast Ohio Council, Boy Scouts of America, embarked on a mission to create a cherished retreat for scouts to learn, grow, and forge lifelong memories.

Pioneer Cabins Completed
The camp's first milestones took shape with the construction of small pioneer cabins, laying the foundation for adventure and exploration.

Birth of Standing Rock Farms
The transformation began: organic flower fields, vegetable and herb gardens bloomed; honeybees were welcomed; structures like the lakeside chapel, pioneer cabins, and Baden-Powell Lodge were restored; trails were reestablished; the lake was stocked with fish; and a museum was created to honor Camp Stigwandish's history.

The former Bold-n-Ranch Farm horse boarding facility joined Standing Rock Farms, fulfilling Chelsea's dream of a thriving flower farm and introducing registered Scottish Highland cattle to the landscape.

Over the years, a remarkable story has unfolded in the heart of Ohio’s Grand River Valley. In 1930, the Northeast Ohio Council, Boy Scouts of America, began an adventure to establish a camp that would become a cherished retreat for generations to come. The camp was designed to create a haven for scouts to learn, grow, and forge lifelong memories.

Throughout the years, the camp flourished, expanding its borders and acquiring additional acres of pristine land. It became a place where pioneering spirits roamed freely, and the echoes of laughter filled the air. The camp’s history is a tapestry woven with milestones, from the completion of small pioneer cabins in 1932 to the formal naming of the camp as “Camp Stigwandish” in 1944, paying homage to the Seneca Indian chief, “Stigwandish,” meaning “standing rock.”

By 1970, Camp Stigwandish spanned a total of 352 acres, offering a sprawling canvas for adventure and exploration. It became a cherished place where memories were etched into the hearts of countless scouts.

Fast forward to April 29, 2020, the news reverberated through the community that Camp Stigwandish was up for auction. As Mike heard of this news, memories flooded back, igniting a fire within him to preserve the rich heritage of Camp Stigwandish. Having spent countless summers here as a child, exploring the vast wilderness with his father and brother, the camp held a special place in Mike’s heart. It was a place where he cultivated his love for the outdoors, embraced the beauty of nature, and learned valuable life lessons.

He envisioned a place where his own daughter, could experience the same sense of wonder and adventure he had felt during those magical summers. With an unwavering passion and a deep-rooted connection to the land, Mike, together with his wife Chelsea, embarked on a daring and transformative journey.

Driven by a shared vision to give back to their community and create a place where nature and agriculture could harmoniously coexist, in May 2020, they acquired the entire offering of Camp Stigwandish, marking the beginning of their grand endeavor.

Throughout the summer of 2020, Standing Rock Farms began to take shape. Organic and sustainable flower fields were meticulously planted and cultivated, while vegetable and herb gardens sprouted with a multitude of produce varieties. The fields burst forth with vibrant blooms, offering a kaleidoscope of colors and fragrances. The farm welcomed honeybees, buzzing happily as they produced golden nectar infused with the essence of the land.

Revitalization efforts breathed new life into the camp, restoring beloved structures such as the lakeside chapel, pioneer cabins, and the iconic Baden-Powell Lodge, among others. Trails were lovingly reestablished, leading visitors through picturesque landscapes where nature’s wonders awaited at every turn. The shimmering lake, stocked with an array of fish, provided both sustainability and joyous fishing experiences. Additionally, a museum was established on the grounds, paying homage to the rich history of Camp Stigwandish and preserving its legacy for generations to come.

In May 2021, the former Bold-n-Ranch Farm horse boarding facility joined the Standing Rock Farms family, bringing with it an opportunity to expand upon the agricultural vision. Chelsea’s dream of a flourishing flower farm became a reality, while the introduction of registered Scottish Highland cattle added a touch of majesty to the landscape.

Today, Standing Rock Farms stands as a testament to the transformative power of dreams and unwavering dedication. It is a place where the spirit of Camp Stigwandish lives on, where the beauty of nature and the bounty of the land intertwine harmoniously. With each passing day, the farm evolves, offering new experiences, breathtaking vistas, and a profound connection to the land.
